Braeden decided to participate in UIL this year through school. UIL stands for University Interscholastic League. They have a bunch of different categories that you can participate in and this year, his first, Braeden chose spelling. They give the kids a booklet of 600 words that they could possibly be tested on. Over the last couple months, we have practiced and practiced. We finally narrowed it down to a list of words that he struggled with occasionally and we practice those this past week. He was excited and ready to go!
Keeping busy while waiting to be called back for the test. Braeden told me that they had 50 regular words and then 15 tie-breaker words. When he came back in the cafeteria where the parents were waiting, he told me that he missed the word "precious." I asked him how he spelled it and he wrote "precious" on the paper on the table. I told him, "That's right." Then he smiled and crossed out the "s" and said he spelled it "preciouce." Silly boy. Other than "anxious" another word we had to practice a few times (which he claims he got right), he couldn't remember any other words on the test.
At this point, we just had to wait until they called the kids back to their rooms to give them the results...
"Guess what, Dad? I got 1st place in the WHOLE district!!!"
